  1. as a phone tech i recommend against it...

yes there is a physical line that runs from the central office to your home... but it is not the same as a line cord... it is solid twisted pair copper...

a line cord is braided copper, and not twisted pair...

a line cord that is too long can pick up induction (back ground noise) and can be damaged easily, especially going thru a door that constantly closes on it..

i recommend a cord no longer then 25 feet. as long as it is not going thru a doorway.... never run a line cord thru a doorway...

if you can, use an expandable handset cordless phone to put a phone in the room away from the phone jack, if you need a jack in the other room (for a fax, or computer etc) then install a new jack closer to where it is needed... it is fairly simple... while not recommended, for a temporary solution you could use a wireless phone jack (but it would probablay be cheaper to just have someone wire the jack right)

  2. they are fine or you can use cordless...

  3. A long extension cord is fine. The wires that come from the Telephone Exchange to your house are basically an extension cord. They are referred to as a pair of wires. And they can be verry long.

  4. Typically, not a problem to run long phone extension lines.  I've done it many times over the years.
