Are lories and lorikeeets good birds

Question

ok im thinking about getting a bird and ive searched a lot some of them are african greys pionus cockatiels amazons and parakeets all seem pretty good but im not sure which one to get now im pretty young age 10 but im very mature ive had to diffrent birds in the past a canary and a parakeet i did not like the canary because i like affectionate birds i love the parakeet but then he got aggresive so we gave him away ive looked up parrots for a year and i love lories and lorikeets i also went to canada and fed them at an aviary i loved them they also seemed to like me some went on my shoulders and one nibbled on my ear and hair then they went on my arm and shoulder they were so nice and affectionate also i have a big back yard so i could probally build an aviary so wich bird should i get im responsible to i just dont know if lorikeets are to much to handle though please answer nicley love ms

Lorikeets are of the Genus Trichoglossus.

Lory's are of the Genus Domicella.

Both of which can make good pets ,but there is one big drawback with these birds and they are soft fruit and nectar feeders which means their droppings are liquid and can be quite smelly they can also cause a right mess.

Lories are great birds, but they are very demanding and kind of messy.  Read up on them as much as possible before you commit to one.  They are fruit and nectar eaters, and they can get food and p**p every where if you don't have their cages set up correctly.  They require lots of fresh fruit cut for them and specialized nectar's.  They are a little more difficult to care for than other birds.  If you are interested something bigger than a parakeet there are several you can look into that are easier to care for.  They are:  Cockatiels, Love Birds, Ring Neck Parakeets, Sun Conures, Parrotlets, Alexandrine Parakeet, or a Quaker parakeet...  These are also very beautiful!  Just easier to keep.  Also - remember that with birds, if you want them to stay hand friendly and loving, you have to handle them every day!!  I hope this is helpful information.

If they're hand raised they can be a lot of fun.

Downfalls: They are extremely loud.  Their shrieks are even more ear piercing than some of the loudest greys I've been around.  Like, shattering glass loud.

They have very messy droppings because they eat primarily liquid and fruit.

Their dietary needs are VERY expensive - you have to purchase specifically formulated lory/lorikeet food (nectar based) and also provide them with fresh fruits and vegetables on a daily basis.

The bads are a lot longer than the goods - I think they are more for an experienced bird keeper.. not a good first time bird.
