  1. Buy  a lpg van second hand, that way you have not paid for the cost of conversion -they cost about the same second hand-plus half the cost of fuel.I did not notice any lack of performance .I used a little more fuel but quids in at pumps..

  2. It's got not much to do with MPG or being green really.

It's all about the PERCEIVED cost saving at the pump.

If anything LPG uses about 10% MORE fuel than the equiv. petrol or diesel - but at roughly HALF the cost - it's cheaper to run overall.

BUT, it costs around £1500 to £2000 for a proper certified conversion...ie. you start to save AFTER using 4000 litres of LPG - (or 50 tanks full)...so not really a fantastic option unless you are planning on keeping the vehicle or do very high mileage.

  3. L.P.G. is about half the price of diesel. Sounds good.

L.P.G conversions can only be carried out on petrol engines.

How many vans are readily available with petrol engines these days ?

A petrol engined van will do about half the m.p.g. of a Diesel and the conversion costs over £2,000.

Just not worth the bother and expense.

On larger petrol engined  vehicles (Range Rover etc) the equation is more in favour of having the conversion done because you immediately save about a half on your fuel bills and can recoup the installation cost in just over a year depending on annual mileage.

  4. no they aren't
