Are magazine contests rigged?

Like win miley cyruses signed guitar or zac efrons ipod , are those contests rigged or is there actually a fair chance?

I highly doubt there rigged since in magazines some people actually there picture in the magazine with the tittle being "Lucky contest winner" but for the items it could be rigged but if you want to try it go for it who knows you might even win!
