  1. Magnesium is a smooth muscle relaxer.  Examples of smooth muscles are blood vessels and intestines.  Magnesium will help relax the muscles, thus reducing the pressure in the blood vessel by increasing the diameter.  Often an increase of blood vessel diameter will decrease the headaches.  In the bowels it will increase bowel movements - ie Milk of Magnesia - a common tx for constipation.

Most of the time I have my patients start with 1000mg of magnesium oxide to see if it helps.  A bottle of 100 count / 500 mg Magnesium usually cost about $5.00.

Magnesium shots should only be done if your blood test show low Mg levels, or if you are using it as a diagnostic test to determine if you are deficient - usually a urine style test post injection.

Good luck - You should get some good results.  If this doesn't work well - think about acupuncture or chiropractic.

  2. Magnesium supplements are supposed to help migraine problems if you are deficient in magnesium.

A good supplement that is supposed to help for the prevention of migraines is Coenzyme Q10.

  3. Magnesium is essential for healthy nerve and muscle functioning and also for heart health & would definitely aid in resolving your migraines............  i can't advise you on having shots of magnesium but what i do know is that the whole food form of this mineral will always be the easiest to assimilate and the most nutritious way of getting this mineral.

foods rich in magnesium are leafy and green vegies, wholegrain breads and cereals, organic ground up nuts and seeds (ground up for easier digestion) and cold water fishes such as tuna, salmon and sardines ...............  the EFA's in the cold water fishes will also go a long way towards levelling out any mood and stress levels you may have too.

foods rich in magnesium will also help resolve any muscular aches & pains & any issues you may have with constipation............  it's a good idea to bulk up your intake of magnesium rich foods when you are on your menses too as this is usually what the terrible cramping, moodiness, aches & pains are due to ~ magnesium deficiency...... i think the body's tolerance level is about 4 - 5gm per day ............  Magnesium is known as the antistress mineral and foods rich in magnesium will also help you deal with life's stressy situations a bit better ............  give you more peace of mind.

    cheers
