  1. Okay, simple, normal auto transmission tends to drags a gear longer than us shifting manuals. We can shift to 2nd gear in less than 5 seconds for manual, but we have to wait for the auto to gain enough velocity and torque to shift to higher gear. The only way to drive auto faster is using something we call as the sequential auto transmission, where we can perform electronic/robotic clutchless shifting.

  2. 4 cylinder yes

    6 cylinder maybe

    8 cylinder no

  3. The advantage a stick shift is that you can wind the RPM's out more; getting more of a top end power than an automatic.  On a drag strip, an automatic usually turns a better time because it is more consistent than a human having to shift gears.  It really all depends on the driver and his/her preferences.  If you are making big power, there are more mechanical features to go out with a stick car.  Consistency is the reason most pro-street cars are running automatics such as a Powerglide tranny.  A stick car has more of a "snappy" feel when in a low gear and makes your car sound better when you wind out the gears.

  4. Automatics are faster than manuals only if shifting points are programmed correctly. In a daily driver for example a mustang the stock transmission is set up to drive not to race so the manual would be faster.

  5. The key to gaining speed is to not move as much.

  6. Well, auto's usually only have about 4 gears plus reverse while a manual has 5 or 6 plus reverse. More gears mean shorter ratios which can mean more power between gears. Although some auto versions of cars are faster in automatic than manual. Like MKIV Supras.

  7. If you let the rpms get as high as possible each shift then the first two gears you might go faster but unless you have thousands of dollars to replace your Transmission every month you should avoid redlining your car every gear cause im sure an auto car will go faster then a manual thats trany just fell out.

  8. Yes, Automatics shifted by a computer and Cannot pass a certain RPM, while a Human can shift at higher RPM so your next gear will start higher... Its confusing, but its true

  9. manual transmission is faster, if you know how to shift properly and at the right time.

  10. yes and no but they get better gas mileage. the reason why is because when its automatic it shift wayyy faster then the human hand which creates better acceration also torgue. but hand shifting uses less gas which goes the the engine which give it more power? idk. thats what i can remeber and think of

  11. who knows... but they make a car a whole lot cooler

  12. Automatics are typically restricted by where they are programmed to shift and don't typically redline
