  1. It's more dependent upon the player's needs.  Graphite shafts are for players with slower swing speeds.  You'll see a lot of women and older male players using graphite shafts in their irons.  Get the steel if the person you're thinking about doesn't meet those guidelines.

  2. steel for a good golfer and graphite for a shiitty one

  3. Your set is quite good and forgiving for higher handicappers.   As for steel or graphite, physically steel holds up longer and easier to clean, but you really should try both types first at a sporting goods store because steel and graphite FEELS different for each person.   You will probably feel the club head more with graphite.  You can also pick the flex if you choose graphite.  (Flex is how much the shaft will bend (flex) during the swing. )

Now-a-days, graphite or any non-steel material is so durable that unless you really try hard to break it, they will hold up just as good as steel under normal or even brutal usage.

Drawback of graphite is that it will scratch or scar if your clubs heads are banging around in your golf bag against other longer clubs, hitting the shaft instead.

  4. Since your looking at the Big Bertha's you probably like the forgiveness so why not have a forgiving shaft?

Graphite is an awesome way to go and its not for OLD PEOPLE or Just LADIES.

Its lighter which can give more distance because of increased swing speed and also does absorb more shock which will help your longevity on the course.

I would just go hit them real quick at a golf store and you can feel the difference with just a couple shots then determine what you like best

  5. I'd say that Big Bertha is a relatively forgiving set as compared to the X series. Definitely more suitable for high handicappers. As to making a comparison between steel and graphite shaft, I'd say Steel shaft are much better as they are generally more consistent than graphite.

  6. if you are looking to hit a ball really hard i would go with graphite.

  7. callaway graphite shafts do hit the ball slightly further than steel . this is due to longer shaft . the problem is they are not as accurate as steel . the 4 yards distance often results in 7 yards offline . the steel is definatly the better shaft . the only benifit of graphite irons . is for seniors with physical problems . they do absorb impact better than steel .
