Are metal three-ring binders recyclable?

I have like, 12 metal three-ring binders that I can't use anymore. Are they recyclable, or should I just throw them in the garbage?

Give them away on freecycle.org. There is a group for every town in North America. It's a grassroots and entirely nonprofit movement of people who are giving (& getting) stuff for free in their own towns. It's all about reuse and keeping good stuff out of landfills.

donate them to the salvation army / goodwill; don't throw them out.

The rings and binder are metal. Recyclable.

Cut the plastic covers and pull out the card board inserts (which are paper). Recyclable.

The plastic cover? Placed in the right recycling bin might show up as carpet someday.
