Are meteor showers visible everywhere?

This upcoming meteor shower, I will be in Lake Tahoe.

Is it visible there?

  1. It depends on these factors.  The weather, light pollution and if you location (usually the constellation labeled in the names) where they are coming from.  You can check on an online star chart to see if you can see Perseids (the constellation for the Aug. 11th and 12th shower) where you will be at and where it will be in the sky if you can see it.


  2. To answer the first part of your question, further to the comment about location, meteors are not always visible everywhere in the world as it depends how far north or south you are and which meteor shower it is.

    The site below has a calendar which will alert you to meteor showers , shows the best time, the ZHR (estimated frequency per hour) both at the best location and at the selected location.
