People here on Yahoo seem to love the words "MIC SKILLS". I agree, they are important in the WWE in terms of creative deciding whether or not to push a superstar.

I remember a certain Chris Benoit being less than average on the mic in my view, and yet he was pushed to World Championship status. This was down to Benoit's excellent in ring ability that got him over with the crowd.

So my question is, are mic skills overrated? Should the WWE use the Chris Benoit route to deciding who gets the nod...I mean Shelton is in the SD main event, why can't he just stay there because his wrestling skills are great and could go over with the crowd....

What do you think about all this?

  1. I agree with you. A wrestler should get a push because of how talented they are in the ring not because of how they talk on a mic.

  2. I agree , they are not actors they are wrestlers

  3. even though benoit did have a monotone voice there was this intensity behind his promo's, shelton does'nt have that. i'd like to see shelton main event but get him a male manager like shane o mac.

  4. Mic Skills < Wrestling.

  5. Mic skills are overrated.

However, to the people who constantly watch the WWE and love "arrogant heels" a lot, they are important. Becuase WWE is more entertainment than actual wrestling in many places, mic skills are priority in the company. In companies where talking is not all that important, like maybe New Japan Pro Wrestling, a person can be fine and still not have to talk up a storm to be popular.

**WORLDS BIIGGEST HARDY FAN!!- Batista does have decent mic skills. People need to look past their dislike of him and see that.

  6. i do they think they are overrated....like Jeff Hardy has great mic skills and the wwe neverlets him use them, Batista has no mic skills but they always have him talking

  7. oh god no MIC skills and charisma are what made guys like ric flair, hulk hogan, steve austin, the rock ect all become successful house hold names.

MIC skills in wrestling are sooo important because you have to get your point across in what you are saying or doing which is vital.

edit: i disagree on jeff hardy having good MIC skills, to me he sounds very generic on the MIC and not someone who gets me excited about a promo.

  8. 1. It's not that Benoit was not a good interview, it's just his voice was extremely monotone. He had that thick Alberta accent which at times can sound extremely dull and boring (no offence to any Albertans) But Owen and Bret sounded pretty much the same way as well.

    2. I personally feel there is a difference between mic skills and charisma. You can have charisma, but still suck on the mic. I always though Sting had a lot of charisma, but his mic skills were not really that great. Plus there is also in-ring charisma which both Sting and Benoit have, while Lance Storm who has no mike skills, but also lacks charisma, so fans did not get into his matches the way they got into Benoit's.

    To me:

    charisma > mic skills

    wrestling skills > charisma
