  1. I have mice.  One that I had was the SWEETEST thing.  She'd sit up in your hand and let you pet her, and she was just the sweetest thing.  From day one she was very social. Unfortunately, she had nerve problems and so she didn't live very long.  :/

My other mice are pretty nice.  They're hard to always hold because they get to be a bit skittish.  But they're colorful and pretty fun to watch, and they'll take treats from you and sometimes let you pet them or hold them.

Beware boy mice, though, as they can smell awfully .. pungent.  My girls don't really smell bad except when it's time to clean the cage.

  2. I've had mice and rats (and many other pets) for years. Mice are smart, they can be trained just like rats, you just need patience and compassion. The only thing that can be a little off putting about mice is the smell. Their urine tends to be stronger than rats. Yes, you can hold them, just be gentle. I used to let mine run around on my bed and within the first couple weeks they were so used to it, that I could leave the room and come back and they were still there waiting for me to return.

  3. ya they are pretty loving a boy and a girl just dont move fast and dont get a boy and a girl.

  4. Mice make wonderful pets! Once used to it mice will come too you and love being played with. They are extremely inexpensive also.

  5. l have had both and l perfer rats l think they have more personality and are more loving but that is my opinin here is a sight to help make your decision.

  6. Mice and rats make great pets, I've had them all my life.  When I lived in a small flat with my four year old son, his rat was his best friend.  He would build castles and stairs with his blocks and the rat would run up and down them.  They are more intellegent than a dog and their bites dont hurt as bad.  And no they are not dirty creatures as some people believe.  I would rather clean up mice poo than dog or cat poo.

  7. they make great pets and are affectionate and yes you can hold them. they are smart and can keep you entertained for hours. i own two fancy mice ethel louise and lucy maire they are the best. you can train them to do lots of things. female mice are better though they make less mess and the smell is ten times less smellie than the males. females do fight every once and a while but the males fight more, females seem more calm and in control. they do develop  some health issues but they are really good pets. i am happy that i got them  and they love human food though just be careful what you feed them mine love potatos amd that box macaroni and cheese  i have no idea why  but  dont over feed them though they can get fat in a heart beat.

  8. mice are not good pets or at all affectionate, get a rat. i promise you wont be sorry

  9. Their temperament will depend on how you treat them. I find spending a lot of time with your mice outside of the cage and playing with them will form a good bond with your mice. I never liked picking them up by the tail, so I used to place my hand in the bottom of their cage and they would willingly climb onto my hand to be lifted out, and came when called by their name! I was also never once bitten by any of my mice, and only one of them ever bit someone because they kept poking her!

One mouse I used to put in a 'mouse ball' and let her run around the house and she often chose to follow me. I'd always have 'one on one' time with my mice, either just letting them explore my desk while i worked and petting or introducing new toys they only got when I was handling them and also hand feeding them.  So I would class all this behaviour as affection, they will show you if they are happy with spending time with you or not.

Many people will tell you that mice smell, but it's just like any pet, they smell as much as you LET them smell, clean out their cages frequently and it's all fine. I used to have two cages so I could set up one (have two sets of toys/houses) and change the mice over then give the other cage/toys a good cleaning/rinsing and i never had a complaint from visitors about smell. I cleaned them out at least once a week or more if i felt they needed it.

Mice only live for about 2 years so make great shot term pets. I could go on a lot more about them! basically they are wonderful pets and can be very affectionate if handle and cared for well!
