I would think that they were voting against their own interests.

But some people don't identify with their race and gender. Some people believe in an economic system where the rich get richer and the poor get poorer.

Masochistic is such a strong word...

generally women hurt themselves by not getting a good edu (although we still don't get equal pay for equal work) and a better job.We dump too much concern into how men view us and too little regard for ourselves and other women...

minorities often do hurt themselves by hurting each other minority on minority violence is still alarming. It is self hate I guess.

The poor republicans subscribe to self contempt in that they blame only themselves for not being wealthy. As if making less money is a crime to be punished by not having health care etc... I guess this is empathizing with the abuser. The abusers are the wealthy elite who profit from a system in which the poor are exploited.

I guess those are masochistic actions, and the most important tie between them is the "system", so yes I agree.
