Are minors allowed to stay in hotels unaccompanied by adults?

Question

For the record, I'm 17, and next week am visiting Rome with a friend who's also 17. Our parents prefer we stay in a hotel over a hostel, but I'm not sure if we would be permitted...? Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

unless you are  over 21  you cannot stay in a hotel by yourself

You will have to present your passport when you check in.  Its doubtful anyone will look at the year you were born and calculate how old you are.  For the record, you should be 18 years old.

if you have the way to pay, valid credit card in your name w/ room paid in advance,  the hotel won't normally question your age.   don't mention age & handle check-in w/ maturity.   but, you don't want to take the chance of them refusing you once you arrive.

I used to work in an online travel agency, and as far as I could remember there are restrictions of minors checking in a hotel (considering an I.D. would be needed to check your accommodation).  Better call the hotel where you would like to stay and ask them about their specific policies regarding minors.

In Italy the major age is 18 not 21, as someone answered!!

Be aware that when you check in you're usually asked all ID's so they see you're below 18 and they won't accept you. Sorry! You should find a hotel and write to them. Maybe you can fix it by sending a signed permission by one adult (I'm just thinking. I don't know if this would be possible).

io non rispondo in inglese, ma ti dico che: qualche problema potrebbe esserci - come l'assensore per il minori di 12 anni - ma se hai i "money" per pagare anticipatamente - credo che possano chiudere qualche occhio! e poi non è meglio un hotel che un ostello? - va bè che ci sono ostelli dove alloggiano persone in giacca e cravatta, non vedo cosa cambi per un ragazzo di 17 anni -
