I'm 190 and far from my ideal weight. I was 160 when I had my first child. I've been TTC for 8 months and had a miscarriage last month.

  1. any health problem raises the risk of miscarriage.

  2. No I think its common in woman period. I had 2 miscarriages before I had my first child and I was a bit overweight, But the doctor says its just not the right time. I hope this helps a little but if not good luck to you hope all is well.

  3. I'm not sure if they're more common in overweight women though I've read that TTCing is harder for overweight women.  For some reason, they have more trouble getting pregnant.  I do know, from asking my doctor, that miscarriages are more common the older you get.  Stats from him:

1-3% chance of miscarriage after seeing heartbeat at age 18-19

6% chance after seeing hb at age 27

50% chance after hb at age 40

I hope this helps!  Good luck!

  4. firstly if your weight was a problem you would have had difficulty in conceiving so I doubt very much that your MC was because of this. Secondly, plenty of slender ladies also have MC so even tho some ppl may say that its a weight issue, the stats prove otherwise. I'm hardly my ideal weight and I conceived within 4 cycles of having my Mirena coil removed and so far Ive made it to 23 weeks with my little girl. Recently in the Sun newspaper there was an article about a lady who weighed 40st (560 pounds) who had successfully given birth to triplets!!!

Obviously it is better for you to be closer to your ideal weight as it puts less strain on your heart, but dont persecute yourself for being larger.

If your fertility is allowing you to get pregnant then its likely that you will go on to have a successful pregnancy soon. Best of luck xx

  5. No, not necessarily. My SIL had 2 MC & she is withing very healthy weight range - 105 for 1.6m

  6. No. Miscarriages are most commonly caused by a defect in the embryo or fetus, not due to weight issues. Increased risks of miscarriage can also be present if there is an existing medical condition.

I am far from overweight (108lbs pre-pregnancy) and I suffered two consecutive losses before becoming pregnant with my son. I later found out I have endometriosis and uterine fibroids though.

  7. I am sorry for your loss.  Miscarriages are (unfortunately) quite common at 4-5 weeks along, regardless of any health issues.

Being overweight in itself is not the risk - but it depends on what other medical problems you have that result from the excess weight.  For instance many overweight women have PCOS or diabetes, both of which raise the risk of miscarriage.
