Question:

Are modern cars too safe?

If the driver thinks he's immune to harm, he'll gradually drop his guard and drive very poorly. If he dives a Mini, he'll be more careful, because he's constantly aware of the dangers. See Volvo drivers..........

  1. modern cars are nooot safe at all!!!

they are made pretty much of plastic or aluminum, those are not very resistant materials and in a car accident, the cars doesn't protect u like an old car will!

  2. I think they are.

What makes it worse is that where I live it's now 'un-cool' to put your seatbelt on if you're a boy so you see all these just-passed-my-test teenagers in their brand new 1.8 sports compact cars hurtling along like a bat out of h**l with the stereo blaring and 4 mates in the back.

All the ABS, traction control and airbags aren't going to help if you hit something without wearing a seltbelt then.

  3. The car type doesn't necessarily define how they drive. I've seen quite a bit of Mini drivers that think they're in the Rally Circuit.

I don't think modern cars are too safe. I don't think anything can really be too safe. But, I do believe that cars are coming out with more useless c**p, and for a lot of things, it's a catch-22 on it.

For example: Antilock Brakes. They allow you to stop without locking your tires, and turn where you want to go. But, anyone who grew up with a car that didn't have ABS, knows how to simulate this same action. That falls on driver responsibility.

Same thing for Electronic Stability Control. It falls on driver responsibility.

  4. Doesn't matter the amount of safety or lack of it...it's the loose nut behind the wheel that causes all the problems...*wink*

  5. Yes to a point that they do give the driver a since of over confidence but I disagree with the people that drive Mini's because they are some of the worse drivers around............

  6. I don't know what they can do to make cars safer, at some point the driver needs to take responsibility

  7. They're not safe at all, modern cars have catered to soccer moms, and as a result are made mostly out of cheap fiberglass, plastic, rubberized plastic, and aluminum.  So in a wreck your vehicle is totalled, while that 1970 Truck you ran into just gets a scratch.

  8. Many cars are too easy to drive, too quiet, too soft and user-friendly.  If everyone dorve a manual transmission car from the 1960-70's with no power-steering, they would learn a bit more about car control.
