My cat just delivered kittens. The father cat of the litter is acting very strange. He keeps clawing at the mother cat(during delivery)or it may be that he is trying to comfort her.I can't tell.I am afraid he may harm the kitten so I locker her in a large cage until the birthing is over.I never saw my male cat act this way.Are mom and kittens safe with him around?

  1. Having had several Momma & Daddy cats & kittens, the "Daddy" will try to get rid of the kittens as soon as he can as this will put "Momma" back in season sooner. And after all they are animals. So please be careful with them together. He will harm them if given the chance. Good Luck with them!!!

  2. be careful because sometimes the male cat cat harm the babies. keep an eye on him and you might have to keep him away from them

  3. well faher cats are mostly gone and let mothers do the work but they can help sometimes...umm dad is acting strange because his "wife" you could say is probably n pain its like a humman havninga baby...just keep them seperated for a while

  4. nope your mommy kitty is probably safe- but the kittens are not

even if they his.  It is not uncommon for intact males to kill en entire litter of kittens- this allows the female to come back into heat.

    I'd fix him asap

  5. I'm not sure whether or not you have very domesticated cats or not. but from experience the male cat tries to kill the kittens and is aggravated by the mother at times because she won't let him mate with her while she has a litter. Keep them separate until the kittens are just old enough...Walking, open eyes, ect

  6. Best and safest thing to do in this situation is to keep daddy cat away from momma and her babies. It was a good thing that you put momma in a cage so she can have her babies on not be bothered by daddy cat. You might want to keep her and her babies in the cage for a while longer because you don't know if the male will harm the kittens. I think he's just curious on what is going on with her. But, you don't really know either if he will harm them or not.

    I hope this helps!

  7. There are many species of animals where the male tends to hurt or even EAT their offspring. My dog recently gave birth to some puppies, and the father dog was very aggressive also, he would hurt the puppies over a piece of food and growl at the mother a lot.

I think its the best if you keep them separate until the kittens are more old and independant, jus to be sure no harm comes to them.

    Good luck with them!!

  8. Better be careful, because sometimes male cats kill the kittens.

  9. I think mabe the father was just afraid!  You probably should keep the kittens away from him until they get their eyes open, then slowly introduce them.(Not the exact day their eyes open). It might also be that the father cat is sick and is showing it in anger you could just take him to a vet. As for the mom.......in a couple of days put the dad and mom in a room together and observe if their is any sign of fights keep them away from each other! (when you put them in a room together stay in there to make sure they don't kill each other) Also make sure the dad stays away from the kittens because he might even eat them! But that's what some cats do!

  10. probably not, it is common in many species for the male to kill the young, so i would suggest keeping them separated until they are old enough to handle themselves.
