lets consider your garden variety digital camera, and a nicer one like a CANON. Would those be able to withstand the elements, like if you were caught outside in a rainstorm? (Not total immersion, just sprinklings)

  1. No, very few are waterproof.

Only some Pentax (newer ones) and the "SW" models of Olympus P&S cameras

  2. Most digital cameras are not waterproof. They could probably hold up in a sprinkle as you said but I wouldn't recommend it. With all the precision electronics involved and the price of the camera, few pictures are worth the risk of ruining a camera.

  3. No, not at all. The majority of cameras available are not waterproof. Only way to know for sure is to thoroughly read the specs of what you are buying. They will have to specifically say "waterproof," "water resistant," "weather proof" or something to that effect.

  4. well i dono about canon cameras,

but if u buy any Olympus u ( Mue) series, then u dont need to worry, cos those r waterproof,

otherwise u can buy a waterproof cover for ur current camera,

  5. No. Some are "weather sealed" like the Pentax K20D DSLR and some are waterproof like the Olympus Stylus 850SW and other cameras in the SW series.
