Are most new dvd players made in north america capable of playing pal format?

  1. The player will be able to read PAL, but most of them won't be able to convert PAL to NTSC.

    If your TV can handle PAL, then this isn't an issue, but most TVs sold in N. America can't do this either.

    If you need a DVD player that can play PAL discs and still output NTSC, try Oppo (http://oppodigital.com)  their players are VERY highly rated, are region free, and can upscale DVDs if you have a HDTV.


  2. They are NOT universal, you have to have a Pal based player to view PAL discs....and the same applies to NTSC based players.

    There are UNIVERSAL players, but you end up with a unit that costs 4 times as much, and they are NOT BUILT by big giant video companys that will provide parts and service thru the life of the unit....

    And that's not good....
