Are most of the DVD movies that have French language dubs and captions done in French or Canadian (language)?

I'm trying to learn "conversational" French and have been playing all my movies in the *French language option* but it seems that the language spoken by the actors does not match the language captions on the screen. It seems like the voices are in Canadian French (which I've heard is very different) from the French spoken in France. Could this be the case? Just curious??? Please help if you can.

Actually yes, most of american movies are dubbed in French Canadian.

I'm french and lived two years in the States, and bought a lot  of DVD overthere.

When my sister watched them in french it appears that they were not in french french, but canadians...

You will have to buy french dvd's if you want them to be in conversational french

it is cheaper to do voice over in Canada for the canadian market so some films take a Disney film could have a canadian vo and a French one. subtitles are done separatly by translators that specialize in it. Bon apprentissage de la langue de Moliere

Buy some French movies not American ones. they are not dubbed, because initially in French.

If you are in the US, I advise to use Renault-bray, it is the Borders of Quebec, mostly for French books and DVD.

Go to the French movies category on http://www.renault-bray.com and buy several. you save a lot from shipping. Otherwise www.amazon.fr has a good selection or www.fnac.com (these two lasts ship from France).

Netflix also has a good selection of French movies for rent.
