Are mouth swabs, and blood HIV tests the same when it comes to results? ?

Is the blood drawn more accurate then a mouth swab??

  1. yes...the accuracy level is the same.  Just like a blood test for pregnancy the urine test sold over the counter.  It's all a matter of time, and convenience  


  2. Blood testing is slightly more accurate, but mouth swabs are about 99% accurate.

  3. Imagine how contagious HIV would be if it was present in the saliva as concentrated as in the blood.

  4. Basically the same. I work in a clinic and we just do blood draws. If some one tested HIV+ with our rapid test we still have the blood to send out for the confirmatory testing.

    What the swab does is creates an abrasion on your gums, when there is the abrasion the body sends while blood cells to heal the surface where the swab rubbed against  the skin which brings the white blood cells to the surface to heal. This way the sample is taken for the test.
