No, unless you are self employed ( which movie extras can be ) and are earning over $30,000/year. You can "elect" to get a GST number even if you earn less than $30,000/year. Once you have a GST number, you must charge GST even if you don't earn the full threshold.

If you are just doing this casually and are getting paid say, $1,000 for a week of work for example, then no GST number is required. You might want to find out if you are going to be hired as a contractor/sub contractor or an "employee" (where the director tells you what time to show up, when you get lunch breaks, etc)
