  1. I thought 5-a-day meant ciggies :)

  2. Yes and No.

Mushrooms count towards your 5 a day and are a good source of protein so they can also complement or be a healthy alternative to your meat.

Potatoes are classed as carbohydrates, so they are part of your bread, rice, grains etc. requirement, not the fruit and vegetables part.

  3. mushrooms are ok, but id avoid potatoes

    sweet potatoes better

  4. Yes they are.

  5. must be because they are vegetables but if you have them fried i don't think it will do your health any favours :)

  6. Mushrooms are considered vegetables. Unlike potatoes, they're low in carbohydrates but high in proteins, vitamins and fibers. Just be careful when you pick mushrooms from the wild because some are poisonous. Common grocery-store mushrooms are normally okay to eat; however, I always parboil them to get rid of any possible toxicity.

  7. Mushrooms-Yes.Potatoes-No

  8. Potatoes don't count as they're a carbohydrate source.  I'm not actually certain about mushrooms though probably not as they're fungi rather than vegetable.
