Are my Canon EOS Rebel G lenses compatible with an Canon xti or a Nikon D80?

We have a Canon EOS Rebel G film camera with a couple of Sigma lenses (normal and telephoto). We are looking at a digital SLR. I have seen good reviews for the Canon Digital Rebel xti and the Nikon D80. Will my old lenses work for these digital SLR's or will I have to buy new ones? Any recommendations?

Your Canon lenses are compatible with the Canon Rebel XTi and all other Canon EOS models film and digital. With the digital you need to multiply the focal length by 1.6 to get the equivalent field of view on 35mm cameras. So a 100mm will perform as a 160mm on the XTi. This is good on the telephoto lenses because it makes them act as a longer lens. On the wide angle end it is not good. This is why the kit lens for the XTi is an 18-55mm.

They are not compatible with Nikon. Nikon cameras use a Nikon mount. Pentax uses Pentax and so on.

Canon mount Sigma lenses will not work on the Nikon. It is a different mount. It should work on other Rebel series canons. I have never owned an xti but I have read and heard good things about them. I have all Nikon cameras. I do not have the D80 but its been a good performer for Nikon. The only thing I would caution if you are going that way is that rumor is the D90 will be out soon. You may want to wait as after it comes out prices on the D80 will go down
