s*x is Nominal because it can only be labelled it cannot be ranked at all, it is defined only by itself.

AGE is ratio because it can be ranked and there is an absolute zero allowed plus the difference between variables is mathematically correct and constant between all variables.

NUMBER OF CHILDREN IN HOUSEHOLD UNDER EIGHTEEN: I have also put this at Ratio because although the actual variable doesn't tell us how old the children are exactly, that's not the question. The answer will be anything from 0 upwards and the difference between the variables will be constant.

SOCIAL CLASS OF RESPONDANT: INTERVAL because the difference between the variables does mean something but is not accurate, the difference between 1-2 is not equal to that of 5-6. However since they can be put in some kind of order it is Interval.

DO YOU AGREE QUESTION: ORDINAL.

  1. i would call social class ordinal - unless it asks income level, you cannot use arithmatic to get there.  ordinal could rank low, middle, high, etc.
