The next morning i could barely walk! I could barely freaking walk! my calves [i think that's what they are called] were killing me! If i couldn't walk, needless to say i couldn't excercize! I just did sit ups and push ups. Today i still cant walk that well, but it's not as bad as yesterday...is it suppose to be hurting like this? should is till walk on it, or do the push ups and sit ups until i can jog again? thank you!

  1. Apart from the fact that you're probably a bit out of shape, your calves hurt for 2 reasons:

    1) You probably jogged using only the tip of your feet (the part that's in contact with the ground when you wear high heels). If you do it like that, you use your calves a lot. Instead, you have to make sure your pressing the ground with your whole foot.

    2) You probably also forgot to stretch after you exercised. When you don't stretch after your workout, the lactic acid your muscles produce accumulates, and that makes you sore the next day. So, in order to stretch your calve muscles you: Keep one foot on the ground and take a long step with the other one, then lower your body bending the front leg and keeping the back leg extended (keep that heel firmly on the ground).

So... As long as you do the exercises correctly and remember to stretch after wards your legs shouldn't hurt anymore.

Well, hope it helps. I'm sorry if some of this isn't very clear... I'm from Uruguay, so I speak spanish. So some parts of this answer might be a bit confusing he he.

  2. Alright the first thing you should have done is R.I.C.E. your legs (Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation) then tape them with any medical tape makes sure its tight before you run again, if the pain doesn't subside within three days of RICE it could be nerve damage and you need then to grab some pain killers and a doctor.

  3. yea if you haven't exercised before that then all of a sudden you work ypur body isn't used to it, yea it is normal its sore, wait until it isn't sore and workout again, yea you can do the push ups and sit up

  4. The man above me is correct RICE

However, if you dont frequentlly work out and/ or are  out of shape this pain  should be expected. Here is a pretty good routine that should not hurt you. If you did not Ice your legs, dont expect the pain to go away all so soon, t will most likley take, lets say, 52 hours. Try walking in place also, as opposed to jogging. Maybe you just need to get into a workout regime. Once you have developed a nice plan (regime) for yourself you should not have this type of pain again, no one person can do the exact same workout and have a similar effect.

Also eat right this can effect how you feel after working out. it is important for people that workout to have a HIGH in protein diet.

From the way you described your reaction to your original workout , i made a workout that i think might just fit 4 you. :::

    15 pushups

    15 situps

Walk in place for 10 min. (or you can pace back in forth for 10 minutes as opposed to just standing.)

I trully hope i have helped..

    I hope 4 u to get better

keep up the work though if you quit thats never good

  5. This is what happened, when you run in place you pretty much run on your toes, or the balls of your feet, more or less.

It doesn't use the same muscles and regular running uses. When you run in place you are doing a very strenous exercise for your calves. You just made them really sore.

Whenever you start working out again after a longish break you are going to be sore. If you are working out really hard you are going to be really sore. I've had soreness that took almost a full week to go away. I had soreness that radiated down my arms and made my elbow amost impossible to straighten.

And-most recently, I over-did an exercise called a calf raise...yeah...I was so sore the next day that when I got out of bed I fell over. My fiance was laughing so hard...but I could not walk. It really really hurt. It has been three days and I'm still sore.

You should try heat and massage. A hot tub is great. Massages are great. Some people like topical muscle creams. Do ankle rotations. Rotate your ankle around in a circle and flex and unflex your foot/ankle and stretch out that calf muscle. If you have a beach nearby walk barefoot in sand. That always cures me. And whenever you sit or sleep for a long period of time (any amount of time you aren't walking) you need to gently warm up your calves before you try to walk. Otherwise they will be stiff and won't respond well when you walk. Give a little massage and stand up slowly!!

If you have any pain in the shin bone, or in any joint then you have a different sort of injury and should see your doc. You didn't fall and you didn't do anything that could tear a muscle...5 mins can't injure you...I think you're just sore.

So, take some Motrin or Tylenol and soak in a nice hot bathtub...you'll be ready to jog again in a few days. This time, don't do it on your toes! :-)
