Question:

Are my contacts making my vision worse?

I started wearing glasses/contacts when I was 25 (I just turned 30). My prescription has not really changed; however, my vision is much, much worse without my glasses now. I'm wondering why wearing corrective lenses has made me unable to see without them. BTW, my vision is not very bad at all-- my RX is -0.75 -0.75 axis 10 and -0.5 -0.75 axis 170. I'm wondering if my astigmatism is what is making my vision bad.

  2. Glasses and contacts won't make your eyesight better or worse; they just give you better vision while wearing them by focusing light into your eyes differently.  A lot of people think that their vision without their lenses gets worse because they now have clear vision to compare it to.

If your prescription has not changed, then your astigmatism didn't get any worse.  If you haven't had an eye exam in the last year, I suggest you get a checkup.  Astigmatism can cause lots of problems because it affects your vision both near and far.

Maybe you are very accustomed to your house and so you don't need as good vision there as you do outside.  I'm a -9.00 myope and I can take a shower and move around my place without too much trouble because I'm very familiar with everything.  Everything is still blurry of course, but with your slight prescription, it may not be blurry enough for you to notice it.  (This part is just my own speculation.)

  3. over time your eyes get worse when using glasses or contacts b/c your eyes get used to that script they adjust making you get a stronger script...its similar to ppl who get lasik surgery and they might one day need to wear glasses again or go back and get the surgery again
