Are my dreams crashing?

Lol that heading seems a little melodramatic,

anyway,

I am a junior in highschool, I've played for my school since 7th grade. We are div.III.

This is my second yr playing club, but its just a regional team. I would say I have a pretty good skills set, (good at passing and serving esp.). And im fairly tall(5'11)

BUT im not the best athlete. Im not the fastest, the strongest, or the highest jumper.

What I'm asking is, how much can I improve in one year, if i start eating right, lifting weights, and running everyday? My dad played bball and ran track in college,so I think I might have potential, I'm just worried that even if I work my butt off I wont make it to the college I want to go to.

Its a ncaa div III university, I'm well known my the coach and players there, as a fan and one who comes to their summer camps.

Does this count for anything?

Im just freaking out right now, b/c I know the coach just went to watch this hs junior in a tourney

  1. lifting weights will definitely improve your strength, speed, and help with most of the stuff you're concerned about. Running will help build endurance for intense games. There are certain moves you can do that help build muscles specific to volleyball.

College ball is a whole nother level. A lot more intense and tougher competition.  You don't have to work your butt off till you can't walk, but doing something every other day will help you greatly. Good luck!!

  2. No, they aren't!

keep believing in yourself and you will achieve your dream!

and then before you know it...your dream will be realized.

  3. walk ons are pretty common especiallly on  small colleges

  4. Many colleges have spots for walk-ons. Since Division III colleges don't offer athletic scholarships, only academic, the girl they are watching may not be that interested if she is a very good player, she may be searching for something more. Going to their summer camps shows a lot, this is were most of the local recruiting is done. A year of workout will do a lot for you; Ab workouts help with air time and your vertical, major improvements are done in about 2 months.  Send out your tape and club schedule to the college and try others, if they think there's competition, they may try harder for you. At your height, and your commitment by playing since 7th grade and at the club level, even regional, many colleges will recruit on potential.

  5. You will be able to improve if you work out and eat correctly for a year.  The more contacts you have on the ball on a daily basis will make a tremendous impact on your abilities.  And eating correctly and working out will help you on the court as well.

Going to a summer camp at the college where you want to go is a very good start.  You should contact the coach and tell them that you are interested in attending the school and playing volleyball there.  You can tell the coach what club and high school team and the schedule.  You should even try to make a short video for them to watch.

I would also try to find some other colleges to send information.  You do not want to limit your choices to just one.  The college you want could want you, but they could have just recruited your position the year before and only need someone in a different position than you play.  For example, if you play outside and the school only needs a setter and a middle the year you are trying to go to school there.

    Good luck.
