i have 4 females and 2 males, ducks. i dont curently have there pool filled with water, but they have a water pool that they splash around in.and my males will follow a female in there then sit on her and grab her neck untill she screams, and then i chase him off cause im scared he will hurt her,or he'll sit on her, while shes under water and i dont want her to drown.then when the femlaes are outof the water some will lay flat and spread there neck out along the ground, then the males with stand on them, but somtimes not even "humping".are they fighting or mateing.i go them all in april so there only a few months old.are they gonna kill eachother,or just make babys?

  1. Don't worry!

Your ducks are just mating trust me I have 12 ducks and my ducks are constantly mating especially in their pond

Ducks are very randy creatures =)

It may look like they are fighting but they aren't

Just leave them be they'll be fine (Y)

But that being said if one of the females starts to get soars or cuts on her back from over mating from the drakes you should seperate them until she heals But that isn't very likely to happen anyway.

  2. hello,

i am also a new duck owner and i was afraid the first time it happened too.

But it is simply duck mating.

When one of my ducks were sick and we brought her to a vet they told us not to breed her because the mating process is very hard on the female.

I have been breeding my ducks for around 3 months now, they are almost a year old.

In duck mating the female submits next to or in frunt of the male. The male had to jump atop the female and try to mate. im not sure why but the male i have seams to vicously bite and pin down the females head.

I think if you're female is willingly submising to your male then everything should be okay.

    i hope this helps.

  3. Leave those poor ducks alone. Whatever they are doing, it's natural.

  4. omg thats so funny! i think they're mating ( i could be wrong ) or the male could be trying to strangle her. weird!

  5. That is the weirdest thing about ducks have ever heard i seriuoslyhave no clue

  6. They are trying to mate.  Although they may be actually to young to have viable eggs, it won't be long now.  Let them be, unless one gets badly wounded.  Then you will have to isolate the wounded one and treat it, otherwise they are fine.
