Are my hard boiled eggs done?

Hey there, so I'm making hard boiled eggs for lunch, I put 4 eggs in a pot, sumgreged the in water, and let them boil, once htey boiled, I let them sit for a few moments covered, and then I took them off and let them sit for 15 mins, are they done?

  1. They've got to boil for 9 minutes (that's what I've done and it always works for me). They should be okay, maybe a bit runny (soft boiled eggs are slightly runny but still firm).

No.  You were supposed to cook the egg in boiled water for a couple minutes, at least 10 minutes.  To know if they're cooked, I always use a pair of chopsticks to grab them.  If the egg falls off, then it's not cooked yet.  When you boil eggs, the shell is rougher, so it's easier to pick up.  By removing the pot and letting the eggs sit has nothing to do with cooking the egg.  It just brings the temperature of the eggs and water down so it's not as hot when you touch it.

  3. Probably.  You can figure 4 minutes in boiling water for soft-boiled, 10 minutes for hard-boiled.

  4. umm i dont think so because i always make them by boiling them the whole time for about 15 minutes. and then when there done i put them in cold water to cool down a little  

  5. A cooked hard boiled egg will spin, you know around.  A raw egg will not spin around. Take one from the pot and see how it spins on the table or countertop.

  6. I've always boiled (moderate steady boil) mine for 15 minutes then quickly submerge in ice water to cool immediately.  (The ice water is so your yolks dont look green when you peel them)  It doesn't taste any different it just looks better on presentation.
