Question:

Are my old SLR lenses compatible with my new Olympus digital EVOLT 510?

I have an old Pentax-FA SMC28-80 lense and an old Tamron (made for Pentax) 70-210 lense. Both are for film based SLR Pentax PZ10 and before experimenting I'd like an opinion first. Thanks.

  1. No they are not compatible with your Olympus. They are probably compatible with a Pentax though. This will depend on how old they are. I believe that all Pentax lenses from 1975 on will work on the new ones but I am not positive.

  2. Can you focus the lenses and change the apertures without a camera?

If you can't, no luck -- you won't be able to use them.

If you can, all you need is an adapter:

The adapter simply locks into the camera like a Four-Thirds lens and turns your E-510 into a manual K-mount DSLR. Of course, auto focus wont work and you'll have to manually set the aperture on the lens. It's important to check if the seller says that the adapter allows focus to infinity. Some do not; inquire if you're not sure.

The 28-80mm will be equivalent to a 56-160mm lens, and the 70-210 will be equivalent to a 140-420mm lens mounted on a Four-Thirds body. Image stabilization will work with the lenses but the focal length has to be manually set on the camera. Because these lenses were made for film cameras don't expect too much resolution out of them.
