This is the first time I have grown my own. Is the white ring around the stems normal? Here is a picture...

  1. There is nothing abnormal about these 'rings'.  They are likely caused by the skin cracking and healing.  Most likely caused by high heat and / or too little water.

  2. That cracking type is because the weather mostly. High humidity (that soaks the fruit in the morning for long period) and then heat in a short period of time can cause that. If you hold to long the fruit and overipen in the plant you will increase probability to have that cracking, don´t go to the irrigation extremes also (to dry or wet). But is weather cause mostly and there´s not to much to do about it. Good luck.

  3. yes they r normal they jus stayed in the sun to long and just cut the top off and they will b fine

  4. while its never quite so prominent, you see marks like that on tomatoes at the grocery store. usually they're so small you barely notice.

i think your tomatoes are fine, but i might trim around the ring. i'd be willing to bet its safe, but probably won't be tasty with the texture of tree-branch.

they look beautiful otherwise!! nice ripe, red, yummy tomatoes. congrats!
