Question:

Are my twin tip skis' binding mounted incorrectly?

I bought K2 Silencer twin tips a couple weeks ago. I took them to a shop to get binding mounted and spoke with the tech about where the bindings should be placed. Because I'm skiing both alpine and park, but I want good park performance from these skis, I asked for a center mount. I get them back home today, click in, and I'm sitting farther back than on my old powder skis! I'm certain this is incorrect and that my park performance will be compromised. Am I correct? should I take them back to the shop and ask for a re-mount? Is there some reason why the K2 Silencer wouldn't be center mounted like other twin tips? Thanks for any advice!!

  1. The reason to not center mount twin tips is when you don't use it for pure park. When twin tips are used for both park and alpine generally they will be mounted slightly back from center but not all the way back like a normal ski. However, from what it sounds they may have put them farther back than they should have. Check into it before you start yelling at them though, if it is wrong you should ask for a refund and repair.

  2. This is why it pays to learn how to mount your own stuff...then this kinda c**p doesn't happen.

But before you go ape-**** on the cats at the shop, put the skis on a shelf bracket or something thin and check out the balance. It is possible that they center-balanced the skis and if they center-mounted them the balance would have been off.

I haven't mounted anything on those skis myself, but I've seen similar things before...but I've never had a ski or binding that I ever HAD to mount more than a few centimeters off of center.

    This does sound odd.

  3. Take them back to the shop and ask why your instructions were not followed.  There is possibly a reason for it, and also a chance the shop fouled up the mount.
