Question:

Are new store bought sheets clean?

Just got a new place and a new bed set...

I have to go out to do laundry...

When I buy a set of bed sheets or pillow cases from the store can I assume they are clean and okay to sleep on fresh out of the packaging?

Or should I definitely clean them because they have third world germs?

  1. New clothes and bedding have been sprayed with a chemical to help them look their best in the store.  It is best to always wash these first before using them.  Especially if you have sensitive skin.

  2. Well if you think about it too much you will want to wash new things but personally I never have.  People used to wash cotton sheets because there was a lot of 'dressing' put in them.  Most bedding sets are sealed up in bags anyway.  PS  I don't think 3rd world germs are any more germy than 1st world germs and unless you are going to l**k your sheets it should be OK.  Enjoy your new bed set.

  3. Always wash your new sheets, clothes, underwear before use.  The factories use sizing in the fabrics and sometimes irritate the skin.  I actually have heard of a rare case that a woman bought a bra (foam form bra) and had eggs in the foam and worked its way into the womans breast (worms developed) and caused her health problems (saw this on a documentary show).  So yeah...wash everything that you buy before use.

  4. I wouldn't worry about third world germs, but sheets are always best if washed before use. New out of the package, they have a smell that I don't like.

  5. I would always wash them first...whats it hurt? I too recently bought sheets and thought humm maybe i can just put these right on but I looked at the sheets I bought and it had a little spot where you can feel them and thought there is no telling who all has touched these, I threw them in the wash and slept great. Good Luck!! =]]

  6. They should be clean, but if you are not to happy with that then you could just put them through a quick wash, even if it is just to take the newness out of them, as i always just give them a rinse through before use.
