  1. Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Ludwig van Beethoven, Benjamin Franklin, Isaac Newton and Albert Einstein were all left-handed according to history. But there are many ground breaking scientists that are right handed.

  2. I think it's evenly distributed; there are probably an equal amount of left and right handed mathematicians.

  3. Newton was left handed.  Edison, it doesn't matter what handed he was, as he doesn't really count. Edison, was, in my opinion, a business man and a tinkerer who just got lucky from time to time. Now, Tesla, that's a different story. He was a true inventor and scientist.

Most scientists and mathematicians who do really well in their field are left-handed, right-brain individuals.  However, more importantly, many of the highly successful people suffered from something call Aspergers Syndrome. AS is a very mild form of autism.  The effects of AS helped these people in many ways to isolate for long periods of time and to "focus" on their problem solving.

Also, just because an individual is left-handed, does not necessarily mean they are right-brained.  People who write left-handed, and write with their pencil pointed "inward" rather than "outwards" are true right-brain individuals.  People who write left-handed using their pencil pointing outwards away from their hand and fingers, can be either left or right brained.

  4. Newton and Edison are left-handed, so they're intelligent.

Yes. No historical and respected mathematicians are right handed. If they're right-handed they were expert in arts not in math!
