  1. They may ask anything they like, but you are not forced to give it to them. Your SS # may be given to a banking institution or an employer however you are not required by law to give it to any one else.

    I ask for current drivers license, birthdates and the bank and branch where you do business.

    I do not live in NJ I live in BC but I know that they absolutely have no grounds to make you provide it.


  2. Well; once you move in .. You are not obligated to answer anymore personal questions . Refer them to your attorney.

  3. I sure would not rent to you.    I need the SSN to verify citizenship and for your credit report.

  4. They have a right to ask.  You do not have to give it to them, but they probably will not rent to you.

  5. When I am asked that--I ask why.  If it is for proof of being a legal US Citizen--you bet they have a right!
