Are nj landlords allowed to ask for everyone who lives in the house social security number

They may ask anything they like, but you are not forced to give it to them. Your SS # may be given to a banking institution or an employer however you are not required by law to give it to any one else.

I ask for current drivers license, birthdates and the bank and branch where you do business.

I do not live in NJ I live in BC but I know that they absolutely have no grounds to make you provide it.

Well; once you move in .. You are not obligated to answer anymore personal questions . Refer them to your attorney.

I sure would not rent to you.    I need the SSN to verify citizenship and for your credit report.

They have a right to ask.  You do not have to give it to them, but they probably will not rent to you.

When I am asked that--I ask why.  If it is for proof of being a legal US Citizen--you bet they have a right!
