  1. It depends upon who's viewpoint you have - Middle aged couple that doesn't want to take care of an elderly member of the family? (It sounds sad, I know) Yes, they would think a nursing home is beneficial. But, throught the eyes of the elderly member of the family... No way! they don't want to get stuck in a place where everything had a particular time; where they are being paid to boss you around... I think that being shut up for the last few years of your precious life isn't natural... Assisted living in my opinion is way more humane...

  2. They are a dumping ground for old folks that no one wants around or under foot.

In the old Eskimo culture, when an old person knew it was time, they would go into hypothermia and find an ice floe to go to sleep on, and die.

In America we consign them to unpleasant homes to die, and then say it is for their own good.

When you get to the point where you can't take care of yourself, its over.  And when its over, its over.

Paying someone else to take care of the problem doesn't make you noble.

  3. While nursing homes or assisted care facilities can be a great social environment with caring employees, there is also the risk of abuse or neglect in some nursing homes. Be sure you thoroughly research a nursing home before choosing it. Check out this website for the "Nursing Home bill of Rights":  http://nursinghomelawyer.com/nursing_hom...

  4. Well I agree with Roy W,as far as assisted living being much better.I care for an elderly lady,as far as getting her mail every day shoveling, mowing, just things she cannot do.She has family in the area but none of them visit unless she call them. She has kids that live just a few hours away and shes lucky if she see them for a few hours a year.So I say yes,it is beneficial for them to be in a place where they have company around them to talk with, and many activities for them to participate if they chose too.It helps them mentaly as well as physically. She was much happier in their then she is now.

  5. no. nursing homes are for sick people.

  6. yes they are beneficial for the elderly that cannot manage for themselves or are a danger to themselves

They are not for the mentally challenged or the physically disturbed and that is were our governments are placing then these people need to be in care that can help them our seniors do not need to be housed it the same facilities to be in fear of there lives from a disturbed room mate
