  1. Not even close.  They are invertebrates, meaning they have no bones.  They belong to the phylum of mollusks, class of cephalopods.

Mammals are a class of vertebrates.

  2. no they are not mammals.they are mollusks.like squid, clams ect. plus mollusks are invertabrae, they don't have back bones unlike mammals.

  3. No they are mollusks. The main feature of a mammal is that it has hair/fur.

  4. No...they're sea creatures

  5. The octopus (pronounced /ˈɒktəpəs/, from Greek Ὀκτώπους, 'eight-footed',[1] with plural forms: octopuses [ˈɒktəpəsɪs], octopi [ˈɒktəpaɪ], or octopodes [ˌɒkˈtəʊpədiːs], see below) is a cephalopod of the order Octopoda that inhabits many diverse regions of the ocean, especially coral reefs. The term may also refer to only those creatures in the genus Octopus. In the larger sense, there are around 300 recognized octopus species, which is over one-third of the total number of known cephalopod species.

  6. Nope. What would make u think they are?

  7. well of course not or they could live on land

  8. nope, they're molluscs... related to things like squids, clams and snails.

  9. No, the octopus is an invertebrate, which means he doesn't have a spinal column like all fish, reptiles, amphibians and most especially mammals.  They get their oxygen through the water and don't breath "air" like mammals.  They also lay eggs and usually die before their children are born.  They have no hair and do not produce milk for their offspring.  Hence they are not mammals.

Since there is a lot of wrong information flying around, I'll clarify that the octopus is called a cephalopod (many feet) and is related to cuttlefish and squids.  They are incredible for a creature that isn't considered to have a brain, but only a dense neural network.  They are observational learners, extreamly smart problem solvers and I always loved them when i worked with them.

  10. No.

I wanna remind people that when you quote or use data or information by an author or organization you are supposed to give them credit.  That means you give a references or site a report or include a link.  The answer given by Ghost was actually stolen from wikipedia,  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Octopus

Although Yahoo is run by a bunch supposed intelligent people, they just don't seem to care if you plagiarize.  However, many of us do.

Edit:  I see tiger b is grading our answers based on tiger b's own criteria.  Sad.
