Are older TV / VCR Combos Analog or digital?

I have a sylvania 13 inch tv/vcr combo, rumor is that these combos or vcr's push digital or change signals to digital

  1. If it was manufactured before 2007 it almost certainly only has an analog tuner. If it was manufactured after 3/2007 it has a digital tuner built into it.

    TVs with digital tuners always have a setting in their menu systems to scan for digital channels. If you can't find a way to scan for digital channels, then it only has an analog tuner.

    This makes no sense. Even if the TV/VCR has a digital tuner, a digital signal has to be converted inside the TV to an analog one to either record it on the VCR or display it on a CRT.


  2. It's possible the vcr tuner is digital.  But you will only be able to tell by having cable hooked up to it or waiting until next Feb's conversion.
