Question:

Are online competitions a scam?

I’m wanting to know what the low down is with online comps. I often receive e-mail notification stating I have won some type of prize but I never investigate and usually disregard the e-mail as it has scam written all over it. I recently received e-mail notification stating that I had won a prize, the e-mail is very detailed including contact details also including an assigned customer service rep etc. The e-mail states that they require personal details in order to issue the prize i.e. name, nationality, mobile number etc - no bank or credit details required.

What is the verdict on these things? Proceed or disregard?

Also, what is the risk when giving out personal details such as your name?

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts..

  2. Most of them are scams. ANd they are called phishing, an attempt to get your personal details so they can try an Identity Theft attempt.

The risk is high if you provide details, even as much as your name and address.
