They use all different breeds.  It depends on what they are using them for which breed they use.  For something like crowd control they use big intimidating dogs like Shepard's, Rottie's, Dobbie's, Belgian Malonis(sp is pro wrong on that)and many other breeds.  Those breeds also do sent work like drugs sniffing or search and rescue but they use all different kinds of breeds for this like, labs, goldens, blood hounds and many more.

Actually Belgian Malinois are the preferred breed for attack dogs.

German Shepard, Bloodhound, and Labrador Retriever are the most common types. But some use Beagles, Doberbmans and Pit Bulls as well.

It really depends on how the dog is going to be used such as a scent dog or protection.
