  1. Photosynthesis is done only by plants , algae, photosynthetic bacteria and lower form of plants. Others are consumers.

  2. Yes.  I am an agriculturist.  I produce palm trees in my land.

  3. you could say that but the sun start the food chain!

  4. I guess you can also include bacteria as producers. Since they can also only need substances such as but not limited to light, nutrients and other chemicals (such as near deep ocean thermal vents) to prosper. Then other creatures feed off the bacteria and so-on.

  5. No, plants are not the only type of producers.  From my knowledge, there are no animals which are producers, however, there are other organisms (not animals) which can produce energy from inorganic substances.

Plants (as you mentioned), algae and some bacteria (i.e. cyano-bacteria) are producers, as they obtain their energy from sunlight.

Chemo-synthetic bacteria are also producers, as they obtain their nutrients from inorganic substances other than sunlight, such as minerals, in order to meet their energy requirements.

So, as you can see, any autotrophic (self-feeding) organism  can be deemed as producers, not just plants or those which photosynthesise.

    Well, I hope that helped!
