Are organized religions the height of human arrogance?

Assuming the Universe is God's greatest creation.

Do you believe that a mouse's intellect is closer to a human's intellect, or that a human's intellect is closer to God's intellect? Assuming you choose the mouse...if a mouse can't comprehend the nature of the space shuttle(for sake of argument as man's greatest creation), how can we comprehend the nature of the Universe? This is a loose explanation of why I don't believe in any specifics that religions preach. In fact, I believe organized religions to be the height of arrogance. People saying that they understand the thoughts, purpose, workings and mind of God is to me, the ultimate in heresy.

  1. If you view organised religion in it's historical context, it is more a desperate plea for security than arrogance on the part of the various congregations. The administration of religious groups is more within the province of pride and arrogance and this is reflected in their public aspect. Agnosticism is a luxury of the well-educated first world.

  2. As opposed to disorganized religion?  Why should our worship of God not be organized?  Do you suppose that God approves of chaos?

I would think that the best way to show admiration and worship of any higher being or intellect would be to become as organized and refined as possible.  How is that arrogant?  I may not fully understand God, but that doesn't mean I shouldn't strive to become a better person.

  3. I agree.  Christians actually believe that God's intelligence is infinite (alpha and omega) and therefore we are infinitely far from his intelligence according to them... so we are much closer to the mouse I guess.

Nothing about religion makes any real sense.  Except for the part where they try to convert people and take more money.

  4. I wouldn't say arrogance. Maybe more like fear combined with selfishness. Fear of death and unknown. Selfishness because religion just forces you to worship yourself.

God loves ME, I am chosen, god punishes MY enemies. Its all about ME ME ME.

I refuse to join any religion because the day that I do whats right simply because I fear punishment (h**l) or desire reward (heaven) is the day that goodness will lose its meaning. For me.

  5. The biggest liars, cons, and manipulators are the ones who wear robes, hats, cloaks, or whatever type of clothing one wears when in a religious personification in a belief.

One of the biggest cons in human history is religion, because all of it was written by man, religion teaches to have a belief, but in retrospect all god wants is man to have an idea of self being. It's so sad to see so many people brain washed...

  6. Your contribution is the answer to your dilemma.

You fail to consider and overlook the value of your spiritual heritage, the river of truth running down through the centuries, even to our barren times of this materialistic and secular age. In all our worthy efforts to rid ourselves of the superstitious creeds of past ages, we should make sure that we hold fast the eternal truth. But be patient! when the present superstition revolt is over, the truths of Jesus' gospel will persist gloriously to illuminate a new and better way.

  7. God aka higher power doesn't micro - organize humans like we think He does. After all there is an endless universe out there to keep in balance.

Religion is man's only way to connect with the Creator.

I am born again Christian. I believe there are many paths to the same destination. Why would a God pick me and my religion to be the ultimate way to the spiritual world.?

Humans are way too presumptuous concerning the amazing things beyond our earthly existence. We can't begin to understand.

If I think on it too much....the vastness of the universe and the how it became and why and who- my head feels like it will spin off of my head.

I have an idea that our laws of science and the theories that we believe are absolute will be completely different from that of the universe. We are also presumptuous that we are the only living beings in the universe.

I know I need to just trust that what will be will be. perhaps the mysteries of the universe will be known once we cross over to the other side.

The creator is patient witho our arrogance, after all we are just human.

  8. ...Are organized religions the height of human arrogance?

That's a great way to put it. Thanks!

Limitations of perspective. That's all we have to be aware of when trying to "get it". It will just not happen. Trying is fun, but we have to be realistic of our expectations.
