  1. ... it goes like this:

you may think you've got free will, but what makes you so sure that in itself wasn't predetermined?!?

  2. yep. predestined to make choices that is.

    that's how i see it.

  3. I think it may be predestined to the extent of events that have already occurred which could influence our lives through the cause and effect chain. It is also possible that everything is happening following a grand complex chain of cause and effect set into motion right at the beginning of the universe. We do feel empowered to take decisions and alter the course of our life, but the point to note here is that such choices made by us themselves may be the result of various causes most of which may not really be in our control. Moreover, we have evidence that we may make choices with certain intentions, but the outcome is never guaranteed and even more importantly, many a times, we ourselves struggle to understand in retrospect as to why at all we made a particular choice at a given point in time.

Whether predestined or not, one thing is for sure and that is that we are not and can never be in total control of how our life shapes up.

  4. you'll never know. if it's determinism you're talking about. all we know is that we're predestined to die.

  5. no. the choice is in your hands. our fate is in our hands... ...

  6. Yes so far as results in this life. Our deeds in the current life create the destiny of our next.

  7. Determined by cause & effect - sure

Laid out with an intended conclusion from the beginning of time - probably not.

  8. meaning, are we destined to make the choices we make? no, i dont think so. i think we have preordained lives that can be accepted or rejected (knowingly and unknowingly). i dont think a "cosmos" or whatever designs fate would care about every dumb choice i make.

no, i think there's free will, and absolutely no reason to believe in fate. there's providence, mercy, and foreknowledge, but a metaphorical tapestry to pre-record my movements? i guess i cant disprove it, but... WHY? and when, and where, and what, and how? and also, isnt there something more interesting to ponder the existence of?

  9. You have control, but a higher being is aware of your ends.

  10. This is a very difficult question and one that needs considering.

Our lives are predestinated only in so much as we accept the concept that we have no or little choice.

Forget predestination and take control of your life.  You will find that God is much better than you think.

  11. I think so. Determinism. Everything, even free wills, can be determined psychologically and biologically.

  12. Yes, you are going to die, someday.  You preplanned it before you got here.

    Peace.

  13. As illusions, our lives in reality hold no destiny what-so-ever.
