Are our questions and answers on Yahoo Answers having an impact on politics?

I have seen some politicians post questions on this site. I wonder if they are paying attention to the answers they received.

Has anyone asked a politician in your region if he or she uses the internet and Yahoo Answers? I asked in my home town in Connecticut. I know a lot of politicians and only two out of several knows of Yahoo Answers.

What, if any experiences have you had?

Currently, I do not believe ANY significant amount of our current politicians listen to their constituents. I believe we need a viable third party, which I believe is the only thing that will MAKE them listen, as they see a threat of losing power.

My Congressman, Tom Tancredo, who is running for president has said that this next election may well be decided on the internet. Yahoo answers is not the only forum and quite often it does have a liberal slant, but a lot of conservatives use it too. Hilary and Nancy Pelosi have both posted questions on Global Warming which is a waste of time now. They should be addressing more substantive issues.

Of course they do. Many have asked questions on this site!

Local politicians are another story. They aren't interested in National politics, unless they are running for federal office!

Yanswers is one source I have been using to gather a sense of how the people of the U.S. are feeling about certain issues and questions. It is by no means a scientific poll, but there is a lot of information to be had for someone who pays attention.

I just wish there were more SANE and RATIONAL discussion here instead of the inflamatory nonsense that both ends of the political spectrum are spouting. But those who hold the power love it when arguments lose any sort of reason and problems remain unsolved. The longer they can keep a controversy going, the longer they can use it to their advantage and stay in office.

I believe that the questions posed by political figures are actually posed by their PR staff, to show Americans that the candidate actually cares about the people's opinions.

I do not believe each candidate has the time nor desire to go through thousands of responses to their queries.

Well just in case they do read the Q's/ A's, where are the pig bombs to protect our troop's from IE'D's??? that's what I'd like to know? are we fighting to win or not? why aren't we as motivated in killing them as they are in killing us? why are we p***y footing around with these murdering thug's?

Doubt it seriously. Mainly because they know we're from every state in the Union and they know our opinions can be polled in very different styles and then when it comes to voting, they'll always figure out a way to word the new laws with technicalities and to their advantage. So, no. not at all. Too vague here anyway.

No, I don't think so.

My experience has been that politicians run in tight groups and do not take the time to get a feel of what is going on in the country.

If we want our politicians to know our opinions, it is up to us to contact them
