I'm only 14 and recently had to get a sonogram because of abdominal pain and I was told I had 5 large ovarian cysts and I'm not sure if I should be worried?

  1. Depends on the size. I get them all the time and my gyno does the wait and watch method to see if they shrink on their own or rupture or need help getting rid of them. Mine always seem to just resolve on their own but i have had 2 that have ruptured and not to scare you but it was the most painful thing i have experienced. Just keep in touch with your dr and make sure they are being taken care of wether it waiting it out or surgery. I have had surgery to clean up my ovaries and i didn't have any cysts for like 2 yrs and now they are starting to come back...so best of luck to you don't worry about them they will probably resolve on their own most do..

  2. The biggest concern with OC's is the fact that they can lead to infertility.

Sometimes OC's will rupture as well, and in the most severe cases this can lead to internal hemorrhage (which needs to be addressed surgically).  Most doctors will take a "watch & wait" stance with most OC's especially in younger women.  In some women prolific OC development can sometimes lead to ovarian removal (oopherectomy).

  3. when my mom was 17 she was told that she would never have kids because of these annoying ovarian cysts. When she was around 13she startedd her period and a year later she had blacked out a total of 6 times from extremely bad abdominal cramps. and i know a girl that is 17 now and she said that a doctor told her that she haddangerouslyy large cysts in her ovaries that could rupture. they are dangerous so make sure to see your doctor regularly.

  4. Everyone gets cysts on their ovaries. Its just a matter of time before they get larger and rupture. If they say that you have large cysts, then maybe you should be a little worried.

My mother had cysts on her ovaries, and one ruptured her left ovary. The doctor told her she wouldn't be able to have children anymore. Well this was 22 years ago, and not only did she have me, but she had 3 others...lol
