sure they look really cute and all, but all they do is sit around and eat bamboo.

are they vital to the ecosystem? or are we only trying to preserve them because they are really adorable to look at.

i love panda bears by the way. i just want to know if they are actually important to the environment.

  1. every species affects it's environment. The pandas eat bamboo, they fill a niche that isnt filled by any other animal. It supports bacteria, parasites and other microorganisms.

and yes, no one would care as much if they werent so fricking  adorable!

  2. I don`t think so.They are good for watching............

  3. Yes, they are good for being Pandas.

Many people have become divorced from the natural world. We see ourselves as separate from nature, so do not respect nor understand the costs of our behaviours. We do not recognize the 'oneness' of the Earth, the interconnectedness of all living things and that we are part of that web.

We need an  underpinning ideological change that promotes quality rather than quantity and equality of all living things (and none living systems such as rivers).

Pandas are good at being Pandas. That is all they need to be; Pandas.

We need to recognize and promotes the intrinsic value of all living things, (just for being what they are), not for what they can 'give/provide' to us. The Earth  is not hierarchical with man being at the top of the list, we are just part of it, equal to, not superior to, other living things. So we should seek to meet  all needs of all living things including clean air, water, food, habitat, reproduction/maintenance of species not just human needs.

Many of the environmental problems and animal extinctions are strongly associated with man's activities; destruction of habitat, deforestation, pollution, GW, overconsumption of resources, method of production including, manufacturing and intensive agriculture/beef farming, production of non biodegradable and hazardous substances/wastes/outputs etc etc

To live ethically and sustainably we have to understand that we are a single system; not separate. Whatever we do locally affects other people, other animals and the environment globally.  Local solutions provide the best answers, we have different climates, soils, flora and fauna. Different needs, wants, tradition and cultures. But by acting locally we must keep an eye on the Horizon by limiting the damage on the environment and people globally.

Permaculture seeks to design ways of meeting man's needs by creating permanent high-yielding agricultural ecosystems. It is a solution aimed so that people can live on the smallest amount of  land possible.  The natural landscape (the rest, the wilderness is then not used by man) it is then left alone to heal and so it functions holistically.

Local responsibility ensures that people become as self sufficient as possible both individually and as trading communities. Man is responsible for meeting his own needs for fuel, food and dealing with his own outputs and wastes.

Permaculture's  leading principle is that eco-systems will naturally re-balance if left alone

So how do we 'Save' the Panda?

The answer for me is not the protection and restoration of  habitats after man has exploited them and their resident species have become endangered, but to limit man's own land use to the minimum. We can do this by becoming self sufficient as possible and leaving the wilderness/countryside to do what it does best self-manages and heals itself.

Pandas are vitally important to the environment, because they are Pandas.

  4. they are there coz they r adorable.......tht's a gud point for sure........

they are living creatures and do have a right to live and if human's are capable of providing that to them, they should. they are very harmless creatures and i feel they should be protected.
