The older sister (33 years) let the younger sister (17 years) drive her car. The younger sister has no license. She wrecked it and now the older sister is threatening to sue the mom. The mother had no knowledge of the older sister letting the younger sister borrow the car. This was done without her permission or knowledge. Is the mother liable for the younger sisters actions?

  1. OKay this has nothing to do with parents being liable because the the older sister let her drive her car with the knowledge that the younger sister was 1.not licensed and 2. cant be insured because she has NO LICENSE...Sooo the moment she handed over her keys she assumed full liable for any and all accidents, fender benders, tickets, etc that occured while the younger sister was driving.

  2. Probably not, but this is something the courts will have to determine.

  3. The older sister is an adult, and gave permission. She is responsible, not the mother.

  4. Yes parents are liable for their minor's actions.  If big sister knew that little sister did not have a license, she will share responsibility for her stupidity in loaning the car out.  The fact that the younger sister is a minor isn't going to excuse the fact that she knew she couldn't legally drive a car, did so anyway, and was the one who actually caused the damage.  By virtue that she may not have the money to pay up for her role in the damages, mom may have to.

  5. Let her try sueing them I say, she is the one who allowed her sister to drive knowing she had no licence.

  6. I'm sure she is because they try to blame parents for everything.

  7. Sounds like BS to me.

Older sister gave permission, thus, she is responsible.
