i know that unsalted ones without the shell are but i was wondering if with the shell would be okay. my hamster seems to like to have to chew things to get to the prize type deal (i had a card board box with treats inside and she enjoyed getting there) i was wondering if keeping the shell on was okay? what if she swallows it?

also i just got these chewing logs that taste like fruits and nuts and i was afraid when i saw her try to stuff it in her cheeks that she would try and swallow that also. do you think its going to be okay to leave it in the cage?

  1. i gave my hamster the whole peanut raw and at first i was expecting it to like just eat the inside but it ate the whole thing and yes it's okay i feed it to her a lot and it's been a few weeks nothing has happened

  2. Yes peanuts are ok for hamsters, I buy my food from my local pet shop and it has peanuts in it.  They stuff things in the cheeks to move it around, you have to remember that if they were in the wild they wouldn't know where the next meal was coming from, so they save it.  I was alarmed when i saw my hamster pushin her bedding into her pouches, but then i realised, she was just filling her house!!

Try not to fill the cage with too much stuff as they are very active at night and also, not sure if you are aware of this but they like to burrow much the same as Gerbils do.  So next time you clean the cage put plenty of woodshavings in or whatever you put on the bottom of the cage. Please also be aware that the woodshavings have been bought from pet shop, you can't just use normal shavings like from sanding down things!

  3. i would go with the shell less peanuts, just to be safe. those peanut shells can cut her throat or even get lodged in her mouth pouch. the logs should be fine. i found that my hamsters never tried to swallow them. hamsters do have their limits and if it is too big to fit in her mouth, its fine

  4. I would say it was fine, its unlikely that they would eat something that was inedible. The shells are quite soft too so it will probably provide some stimulation for him to get to the nut inside.

  5. yes and i have heard that peanuts keep them active

  6. you can keep the shell on the peanut. and you can leave the chewing logs in the cage. she was probably just trying to move it.

  7. Yes, in the shell is good for their teeth. It won't harm her.

You might want to break up the chewing logs into little pieces, so it's easier to eat.

  8. Personally i would feed the hamster sun screen.
