Are penal codes and radio codes the same for every state?

That wealth of material can be very overwhelming to study in such a short period of time. I was going to pick up some books to get a head start but want to make sure that the radio codes and penal codes are the same for every state ( I dont know where I'll end up working).

I live in NY currently but NYC is not a great place to be a police officer, cost of living is way too high considering how much you get paid.

They are different for each state and also each twn and city.

If only.  That would make it too easy for us to figure out what they are talking about and what they mean when they throw their codes around.

Not only are they different for every county, town, and state you enter, but they even change the codes around just to add to the fun!

Do yourself a favor, and don't worry about figuring them out.  You'll just give yourself a headache, and what you learn now may probably won't even apply in another couple of months anyway.  go find out where you want to work at, and then start trying to meddle your way through the codes.  I wouldn't worry too much about it, though.  Part of their training is getting you to learn the language- so to speak.
