Are penguins birds or mammals?

Ok are penguins birds or mammals? I'm not sure because if I look on wikipedia it says they are birds and if I look on some other site it says they are mammals so which one are they?

  4. Penguins are definitely flightless birds.  They do seem furry like a mammal but it's really feathers... the only mammals that lay eggs are the echidna and the platypus.

Just narrowing it down you know they do not give live birth they lay there eggs and leave it with the father. They then leave to go get fat and happy when they come back they feed it by regurgitating into there mouth they do not have hair they have feathers so by process and elimination they are most definitely BIRDS. They are the cutest bird I think.

  15. Penguins are birds. They lay eggs and have feathers. The reason that site probably said they were mammals is because they can't fly. But they're 100% bird! :]

    They are like a mammal in that they need to maintain a certain body temperature.
